Urban Rainforest

Look at that delicious homemade brunch. ‘Nough said.

Today was a national holiday, Hari Raya Puasa, the end of Ramadan. We hung out at home for hours during the monsoon rainstorm that lasted only 15 minutes, playing card games like Exploding Kittens and Monopoly Deal. Their Italian friend and neighbor Cristina came over too. We rallied and got out of the house into a baller business class Uber that took us to the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, a big rainforest park in the middle of the city.

We hiked the HSBC TreeTop Walk (corporate investment in public land!?) about 2.5km up the hill from the MacRitchie reservoir, where we saw monkeys, and many hikers and joggers. Apparently the Central Catchment Nature Reserve is a tamer version of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, which is only one of two primary urban rainforests in the world (the other is in Rio de Janeiro), but that park is only open on weekends while they renovate the trail so we weren’t able to visit. This was pretty awesome though–to hike 3 miles in the humid sweaty heat and see some monkeys and forest plants!

Then we had an amazing communally cooked homemade dinner at Hotel Sashimi aka Minh & Phuong Anh’s apartment with friends.
