The little beach town of Ericeira, Portugal

Yesterday, we woke up and went to the beach at 9:30am. We stayed most of the day, slathering on a mix of sunscreen with 45+ SPF and carrot oil we got in Lisbon (to even out our terrible tan lines from walking El Camino).

The beach we relaxed at was a family beach full of babies and little ones — so cute!! We are in a surfing paradise, but neither of us are too interested in surfing while here (we have LA, after all). Instead, we are enjoying lounging around doing nothing as we prepare to head back to LA (tomorrow! On Sammy’s 29th bday!!).

We enjoyed a delicious lunch yesterday of traditional Portuguese fried cheese (so yummy and little sweet with honey or something), feijoada (beans, black eyed peas) with tuna and parsley (yum!), incredible buttery clams with parsley and lemon, and a green salad. Our bodies are ready for more greens when we get back to LA!!! No more bread!!!!!

In the morning, we also tried some more Portuguese pastries…including the beloved pastel nata (cream cake).

In the evening, we made dinner at home (our Air BNB) and it was so nice! We have enough for leftovers today for lunch. Sammy’s scrumptious spaghetti with fresh tomato, garlic and spicy red pepper in olive oil and a green salad with red onions.

Feels great to be at a home and cook meals. Can’t wait to be back at our house in LA to cook and work, hug Otis, be with family and friends, sleep in the same bed every night, and generally get back to normal life.

Travel is a great way to adventure AND appreciate what we have at home.
